The International Max Planck Research School for Solar System Science at the University of Göttingen in Germany (Solar System School) offers a research-oriented doctoral program covering the physics of Solar system science. It is jointly run by the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) and the University of Göttingen.
The science covered by the department Planets and Comets (one of three departments at the MPS) includes a wide spectrum of planetary research. We study the structure and composition of planets in our solar system as well as dynamic processes. The research includes the deep interior, surfaces, atmospheres and the plasma environment (thin hot charged particles in the environment) of the planets. The main focus lies in the research of the terrestrial planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars) and the gas giants (Jupiter and Saturn) as well as small bodies including comets and asteroids. We study similarities and differences among the various objects and compare them with each other to better understand the evolution of our solar system.

Voss Postdoctoral Research Associate in Environment and Society
The Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES) seeks candidates for one or more distinguished postdoctoral positions in any field of study relevant to environmental research. Voss Postdoctoral Research Associates conduct independent research, but are mentored by one or more IBES affiliated faculty.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITERIA
Requirements for the positions include a Ph.D. in a field to the study relevant to environmental research, ability to take initiative and work independently, and an interest in contributing to a dialog across disciplinary boundaries. Applicants should submit a research proposal based on the guidelines below, including identification of a proposed faculty mentor. Proposals will be judged on scientific merit, an achievable research plan, and the degree to which they contribute to or compliment the research activities of faculty mentors. Letters of support will be requested from proposed mentors, so applicants will benefit from contacting proposed mentors early in the process.

3. Graduate Research Assistantships in Critical Zone Science
We are seeking applicants for graduate research assistantships (one M.S. and two Ph.D.) in the study of mineral weathering and the fate of weathering products in forest ecosystems. Applicants are sought for a project supported by the NSF at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest (www.hubbardbrook.org) in New Hampshire. The study focuses on mineral weathering gradients at the hillslope and watershed scale and is aimed at improved prediction of soil and water quality in headwater catchments. Components of the project will include element fluxes, aqueous and solid phase geochemistry and mineralogy, modeling, and hydrologic characterization. The project will have a demanding field component that will require extensive travel and summer residence in New Hampshire. Students will work with faculty at Virginia Tech, the University of Vermont and scientists from the USDA Forest Service. A strong background in hydrology, forest soils, geochemistry, geology, and/or geospatial analyses is required. Competitive students should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills.

5. Exploration Fellowship in Earth and Space Science
The School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE) at Arizona State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will serve as an Exploration Fellow in Earth and Space Science.
