The city of Hong Kong ranks among the most international and dynamic cities.

The University has set up Department of Ocean Science under the School of Science in February 2018.  The new department will primarily focus on marine ecology (existing strength), oceanography, and ocean technology covering coastal region to deep-sea. The Department is seeking applications for tenure-track positions at the ranks of Assistant Professor or above in physical, chemical, biological oceanography, ocean sensor and sensing technology and ocean data science.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in any of the above fields, preferably with at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience. Successful candidates should have strong research track records. They are expected to establish an independent research program and contribute to the missions in undergraduate and postgraduate education of the newly established Department of Ocean Science. The medium of instruction is English.

2. Postdoctoral opportunity - Carbon biogeochemistry in boreal aquatic networks and reservoirs

A postdoctoral position is currently available focusing on greenhouse gas emissions, and carbon processing, transport and storage in boreal aquatic networks. Researchers interested in exploring terrestrial / aquatic biochemical links, determining the carbon footprint of hydroelectric reservoirs, establishing connections between surface and subsurface hydrologic processes, and generally quantifying role of aquatic networks on terrestrial C budgets are encouraged to apply. The project focuses on boreal rivers, lakes and hydroelectric reservoirs in northern Québec (Canada), but comparative work in temperate and subarctic systems in Québec and elsewhere in the world will also be carried out. We are seeking a highly motivated colleague holding a PhD degree in a relevant subject (limnology, aquatic ecology, earth sciences, geography) interested in working in an interdisciplinary setting, with experience in C biochemistry and biogeochemical modeling and excellent verbal and written English communication skills; experience in GIS, landscape modeling, and / or hydrology, would be an asset.

4. Endowed Chair in Structural Geology

The Department of Geological Sciences in the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin is looking for an Endowed Chair in Structural Geology to take up a tenured position at the full professor level.

We seek a creative individual with a vigorous science program who uses constraints from the field to enhance our understanding of the processes that shape the planet. We take a broad view of the often inter- and cross-disciplinary research addressed by structural geology but an ability to extract constraints on the ground, teach structural geology, and mentor field-based students is required.

We also put emphasis on synergy and collegiality and seek an individual who complements the range of research efforts at the department and the Jackson School, and whose interests are aligned with departmental strengths such as in lithospheric dynamics.
