1.Assistant / Associate Professor

The Department of Marine Geosciences (MGS) at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), University of Miami (UM), seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track position at either the assistant or associate professor level in the fields of geodynamics, geodesy, or cryosphere dynamics. We are interested in candidates accomplished in (1) applying geodynamic modeling or geodetic techniques to the wide range of active geological processes and hazards, or (2) measuring or modeling of sea level changes, a field of direct relevance to Miami. We encourage applications from candidates who will utilize NASA’s current and forthcoming Earth Observation missions as well as data from other satellites.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally funded research program, supervise graduate students, and participate in the teaching mission of the Department and the School at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. She or he should present specific plans to achieve these objectives. Teaching ability in numerical modeling methods, hydrogeology, petrology, or structural geology will be viewed favorably. The successful candidate should also present plans to interact with the MGS Geodesy and Seismology group, and to exploit resources at the UM Center for Computational Sciences and/or the UM/RSMAS Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing (CSTARS).

2.Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)

The Department of Meteorology and Climate Science at SJSU invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level, to begin August 2019. We seek applicants with specialization in Western US Weather and extreme events including precipitation, drought, impacts of climate change, and other meteorological processes. The successful candidate must be able to teach our core senior class on Synoptic Meteorology, as well as classes in synoptic and mesoscale meteorology as they relate to the western US, as well as classes on the broad area of impacts of climate change on western US weather. Teaching responsibilities may over time include General Education, majors (BS) and graduate (MS) courses. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop an active research program involving both graduate (MS) and undergraduate students, and develop a record of peer-reviewed publications and external grant applications. The successful candidate will also participate in advising, committee, and departmental outreach activities. SJSU is ranked 4th in the US in increasing upward student mobility, and we seek candidates who are passionate about helping these students!

3.Graduate Position: Forest Soil Biogeochemistry

Graduate positions (prefer PhD) are available to study how nutrient limitation influences forest ecosystem processes for early 2019. The project will leverage a nine-year field fertilization experiment that has enriched ecosystem phosphorus in an otherwise low phosphorus region. The main area of novel study is understanding how phosphorus influences the stabilization of soil organic matter and its role in mediating the nitrogen cycle. Other possible research areas include, but not limited to, plant-microbial interactions, forest productivity, and litter decomposition. Ideal candidates will be broadly trained in terrestrial ecology, but should have a background in plant ecology, soil ecology, biogeochemistry, or a related field. If interested, please contact Dr. Jared DeForest (deforest@ohio.edu) in the Department of Environmental and Plant Biology at Ohio University for details on applying or the project.

4.Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program at Princeton University in cooperation with NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) seeks a postdoctoral researcher or more senior position to conduct studies on the predictability of seasonal hydroclimate extremes. This position is a part of the Forecasting a Continuum of Environmental Threats (FACETs) project, which is a proposed next-generation hazardous weather paradigm that utilizes probabilistic information as its foundation. FACETs will leverage physical and social science research to support a system that is modern, flexible, and designed to communicate clear and simple hazardous weather, water, and climate information to serve society. FACETs supports NOAA's Weather-Ready Nation initiative to build community resilience in the face of increasing vulnerability to extreme weather, water, and climate events.
