1. Research Scientist

The position is located onsite at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. US Citizenship or Permanent Residency preferred to ensure timely access to NASA IT systems and NASA facilities.

Project Description:

Remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) is defined as the ratio of water-leaving radiance to the total downwelling irradiance just above water and is the key parameter for the retrieval of subsurface optical properties of water column. NASA’s heritage atmospheric compensation has been shown to generate climate-quality global Rrs over open oceans.

Required Qualifications:

• MS degree in a physical science with 1-2 years of experience in radiative transfer theory/applications and analyses of aerosol optical properties. (A PhD in an appropriate discipline can substitute for some of the experience.)

• Programming experience in at least one of the following languages: Python, C, IDL in a Linux/Unix environment.

3. CIRES Visiting Fellows Program, University of Colorado Boulder

CIRES invites scientists to join the thriving community of researchers in Boulder, Colorado, through our prestigious Visiting Fellows Program. CIRES visiting fellowships are intended to stimulate interdisciplinary science within the institute through engagement with researchers on campus and in Boulder’s NOAA laboratories. Two-year visiting fellowships are available for postdoctoral researchers ($62,000/year), and terms of up to 12 months for senior scientists on leave or sabbatical (living expenses). Sponsored by CIRES Fellows, visiting fellows work with CIRES researchers on a wide range of environmental science topics. The CIRES Visiting Fellows program has attracted more than 345 scientists from around the world since 1968; many have gone on to careers in CIRES, NOAA, and CU Boulder.
