2. Analytical Specialist, Department of Geological Sciences

The Department of Geological Sciences at Brigham Young University (BYU) invites applications for a full-time, continuing faculty status-track Professional Faculty position beginning as early as the Fall of 2018. 

We are seeking an individual with interest and experience in managing analytical facilities. Experience in the operation and maintenance of at least some of the following is essential:  X-ray diffraction, liquid scintillation and alpha counting, ICP and XRF spectrometry, stable isotope analyzers.  Field expertise may include shallow sediment coring, geophysical surveying, and water chemistry sampling.  This professional faculty position is designed to assist and collaborate with Professorial faculty, as well as mentor graduate and undergraduate students.  The successful candidate will not conduct a self-guided research program.  Moreover, the successful candidate will spend much of his or her time working with students one-on-one or in small groups, and may be assigned to teach an instrumental methods course.  The position requires a PhD in the geological sciences or a related field. 

Excellent research infrastructure exists within the Department, including laboratories and field equipment that support a wide-range of geophysical, geochemical, isotopic, and petrologic studies.  Excellent computational facilities are also available within the Department and University. 

The Department consists of 13 Professorial and 3 Professional faculty, and offers B.S. and M.S. degrees.  Research areas include environmental geology, hydrogeology, continental magmatism, structure and tectonics, stratigraphy, paleontology, planetary geology, mineral surface chemistry, geophysics, climate studies, and petroleum geology.

The Director of IT Communications & Customer Success is a key position within the central IT division that works in partnership with technology leaders and business partners across colleges and departments at the University of Delaware. This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Technical Writing, English or other relevant discipline and at least six years of job related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  The job requires experience in developing strategic communications, public relations or marketing, and media relations, preferably within a complex organization. Excellent writing and communication skills as well as proficiency in techniques of electronic publication and web development is also required. The successful candidate will also have strong project management skills and ability to lead substantial communication projects in a variety of media to completion. Information technology experience in a centralized IT division serving a large organization and experience working in higher education is preferred.

4. Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences

Position:

The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for two full-time, non-tenure track, Lecturer positions in the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences beginning August 2018. One permanent and one temporary (one-year) for the 2018-2019 academic year. 

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Geology or closely-related discipline. 

Responsibilities:

Teach four 3-credit or equivalent courses per semester. Teach GEOL 121 Physical Geology, both lecture and laboratory components, as well as other upper and lower level geology courses. High priority courses include GEOL 123 Historical Geology (lecture + lab), GEOL 305 Environmental Geology (lecture + lab), GEOL 321 Structural Geology (lecture + lab), GEOL 357 Physical Oceanography (lecture only), and GEOL 415 Hydrogeology (lecture + lab).  In addition to their teaching responsibilities, lecturers are required to contribute 20% of their time toward service or research duties, commensurate with the department’s goals.

5. Marine Seismologist

We are seeking a Marine Seismologist to lead the development of marine seismology research in strategically important areas of marine geoscience.

We are looking to strengthen expertise in active source marine seismology, especially the application of novel high-resolution seismic techniques to research questions around the sustainable use of natural resources and geohazards impacts. 

You will be required to lead the design, implementation and delivery of world-class marine geoscience research and to generate external research funding. You will seek to develop appropriate partnerships with industry and other stakeholders, also meeting the UK ODA agenda. We actively encourage interaction with the wider multi-disciplinary research community both within NOC and with external UK and international researchers. 

The role will involve periods at sea to conduct seafloor geophysical experiments and international travel.

6. Post-Doctoral Researcher Crop Modeling
