1.Lecturer, Geography and Environmental Science

The Department of Geography and the Environmental Science Program invite applications for a Lecturer with teaching responsibilities in both programs. The academic home for the appointment will be the Department of Geography. This position is a continuing teaching (non-research) appointment, preferably starting 1 January 2019. Applicants should have a PhD and training in the natural sciences relevant to this position. They should demonstrate excellence, or the promise of excellence, in teaching, and demonstrate a commitment to apply experiential learning and innovative pedagogy. In Geography, the successful candidate will mainly teach large enrolment geography courses that integrate science and social science perspectives (https://www.sfu.ca/students/calendar/2018/summer/courses/geog.html), and courses that develop professional communication skills and facilitate career development. The ability to teach core physical geography courses will be an asset. In Environmental Science, the successful candidate will teach core environmental science courses (https://www.sfu.ca/evsc/courses.html) and a course within the program in their area of specialization. The ability to teach quantitative skills will be an asset. Preference will be given to candidates who can successfully teach students from a range of science and non-science backgrounds. 2.Chair/Professor

The GIS/Remote Sensing Specialist and Center Director will support the Lamar Geospatial Center (LGC) by developing and teaching remote sensing classes and workshops, as well as GIS and GPS classes including those supporting GIS Certification, a Minor in GIS when required; and, eventual development of a Masters in Geospatial Science. This person will lead the day-to-day operations of the LGC and projects associated with it, including database management, submission of reports, and the writing of grant proposals pertaining to the LGC. 3.Assistant Professor of Geosciences, Sedimentology/Stratigraphy

Denison University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Geosciences, to begin in August 2019. We seek a broadly-trained scientist engaged in the study of sedimentology and/or stratigraphy that complements our department’s current strengths in paleontology, petrology/volcanology, process geomorphology, and structural geology. 5.Mesoscale data assimilation scientist

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) in Boulder, Colorado and the NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) have an immediate opening for a research associate with experience in mesoscale satellite data assimilation and numerical weather prediction. The scientist will have an appointment within the Assimilation Development Branch (ADB) of the ESRL Global Systems Division.

The scientist will develop and test modifications in data assimilation procedures for satellite and other observations in mesoscale and storm-scale models, including assimilation of satellite-derived cloud and precipitation products. The scientist will work in collaboration with other scientists in ESRL/GSD/ADB. This work will include development for the HRRR and Rapid Refresh (RAP) assimilation systems using the GSI (Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation) assimilation and the WRF (Weather Research and Forecast) model. It will also involve work with NOAA’s Next-Generation Global Prediction System (NGGPS) including the FV3 model and the JEDI data assimilation system as it is developed with a focus on short-range forecast and nowcasting applications. The scientist will work as part of team in testing and refining algorithms for real-time operational application. The position is located in Boulder, Colorado. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

6.PhD student in Flood Modeling/Hydrology

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Florida International University is looking for three PhD students for the Spring of 2019 (January 2019). The students will work on a NSF-funded project related to smart and green technologies for flood control. The ideal students need to have an outstanding experience in flood simulation (1D and 2D) and watershed-scale hydrological modeling.
